The Socially Networked Classroom: Chapters 3 & 4
After reading through Chapters 3 and 4, I would love to try some of the blog posting exercises with my students, just so I can see which of my SPED students may have a knack for writing and creation. They have surprised me recently with how quickly some of them can write when given something to copy off the board. I am curious to know if any of them have any other hidden talents I'm not aware of.
I am reminded in Chapter 3 to ensure that I teach them about the responsibility of being safe online. I will need to emphasize the importance of being cautious about what you say online, so that it doesn't come back to haunt you later in life. Once they publish something online or even comment on someone else's publication. That can be considered years down the road, and it could prevent them from getting a job or something worse.
Since I am currently teaching work-based learning and how to get jobs. Some of the exercises discussed in Chapter 4 will likely lead to some of the socially networked job sites that can be used for finding employment. This will enable me to connect the book's content directly to my classroom activities, and I am excited to adapt one of them into a learning experience for my students.
